Newcastle United Eyes Victor Munoz Following Real Madrid’s Transfer Decision

Written byFerdous Saeed

Newcastle United has received a significant boost in their efforts to acquire Osasuna winger Victor Munoz this summer, as reported by various sources. Head coach Eddie Howe is keen on reinforcing his squad after a lackluster 2025-26 season, where the Magpies finished 13th in the Premier League.

Newcastle has already secured the signing of 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims for a reported £24 million, with additional signings anticipated as they aim to enhance their roster.

While it remains uncertain how their failure to qualify for European competitions will affect their transfer strategy, adding a new winger is reportedly a top priority following the £69 million sale of Anthony Gordon to Barcelona.

This week, journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that Newcastle has submitted an official bid for the 22-year-old Munoz, who has been identified as a key target. Although no agreement has been reached between the clubs yet, Newcastle is optimistic about finalizing a deal worth over €30 million (£26 million).

Real Madrid Opts Against Buy-back Clause for Target Munoz

Munoz began his football journey at Real Madrid, where he made 63 appearances for the Castilla team and played four times for the senior squad in 2025, including two brief substitute appearances during last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

He was sold to Osasuna in July 2025 for approximately €5 million, with Real Madrid including a 50% sell-on clause and a buy-back option in the deal.

According to Romano, Real Madrid has chosen not to activate this buy-back clause this summer, putting Newcastle in a favorable position to secure the two-cap Spain international.

Los Blancos are now under the management of Jose Mourinho, whose return to the Bernabeu was confirmed on Thursday. The club is focusing on other targets such as Ibrahims Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva, and Julian Alvarez.

Munoz Poised to Become Newcastle’s Second Summer Signing

The decision now lies with Osasuna regarding whether they will accept Newcastle’s offer for Munoz and realize a substantial profit on a player they acquired just one year ago.

During the 2025-26 season, Munoz made a significant impact at Osasuna, scoring seven goals and providing five assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. He is adept at playing on either wing and scored on his international debut for Spain in March; however, he was not included in Luis de la Fuente’s final squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

If Munoz joins Newcastle, he will add competition for starting positions alongside players like Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga, and Jacob Murphy on the flanks.
