Barcelona Files Lawsuit Against Real Madrid President Demanding Apology
FC Barcelona has announced it has filed a preliminary mandatory settlement request today as a precursor to pursuing criminal defamation charges against Real Madrid President Florentino Pérez, citing Article 205 of the Spanish Penal Code.
This action stems from statements made by Pérez during a press conference on May 12 and an interview he conducted the following day with a media outlet.
Barcelona stated that the purpose of this request is to compel the Real Madrid president to retract certain statements that the club claims were made knowingly without basis, asserting that they constitute defamation and damage to the club’s image and reputation.
The Catalan club emphasized that if this legal request is not adequately addressed, it will proceed with filing an official criminal complaint against Florentino Pérez.
This move is part of escalating tensions between Spain’s football giants, Barcelona and Real Madrid, which often spill into legal arenas alongside their on-field rivalry.
