Real Madrid Opts Against Rodri Transfer Following Bernardo Silva Agreement
Real Madrid has reportedly decided not to pursue a transfer for Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer. The decision comes as Manchester City faces the departure of key player Bernardo Silva, who is set to join Los Blancos after finalizing a deal with the club this month.
In light of Silva’s exit, Manchester City is actively searching for suitable midfield replacements. However, their efforts to acquire Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson have reportedly stalled despite a substantial £106 million offer from the Premier League champions.
Anderson is currently in the United States with the England national team, aiming to end a 60-year drought for major international trophies by winning the World Cup across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Thomas Tuchel’s squad will kick off their Group L campaign against Croatia in Texas on Wednesday night, with Anderson expected to partner Premier League champion Declan Rice in midfield.

Real Madrid’s Strategy Regarding Rodri
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid has established its approach regarding a potential high-profile move for Ballon d’Or winner Rodri during the summer transfer window. The report indicates that Los Blancos do not plan to pursue a deal for the 29-year-old midfielder, who is currently representing Spain at the World Cup, aiming for consecutive major tournament victories.
The club president Florentino Perez, recently re-elected ahead of the 2026-27 season, does not prioritize acquiring Rodri at this time. The former Atletico Madrid midfielder’s contract at Manchester City is set to expire at the end of next season, allowing him to leave as a free agent.
While there is reportedly a new contract offer on the table from Manchester City for Rodri, it remains uncertain whether he intends to sign it.

A Summer of Major Changes at Manchester City
This summer marks a significant transition for Manchester City following a decade of success under legendary manager Pep Guardiola, who has departed from the club. Enzo Maresca is expected to be appointed as his successor.
Bernardo Silva’s departure after nine years with Manchester City has seen him contribute to six Premier League titles and a Champions League victory in 2023 since joining from Monaco in 2017. Even if Rodri remains and signs a new contract, changes at Manchester City are imminent as they seek to close the gap with Arsenal in next season’s Premier League standings.
