Swiss Foreign Minister Commends Egypt’s Role in Regional Stability Efforts

A phone call took place between Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Ignazio Cassis, the Swiss Foreign Minister. The discussion focused on ways to enhance bilateral relations and exchange views on various regional issues of mutual interest.

During the call, Minister Abdel Aty praised the continuous development of Egyptian-Swiss relations, especially as both countries celebrate over 90 years of diplomatic ties. He expressed hopes for further collaboration in political, economic, and commercial fields.

He emphasized the importance of increasing trade volume and encouraging Swiss investments in infrastructure sectors, including the Suez Canal Economic Zone and new urban development projects.

Regarding regional developments, Abdel Aty outlined Egypt’s intensive efforts to de-escalate tensions in the area, reaffirming Egypt’s support for the U.S.-Iran negotiation process.

He stressed the need to seize the current opportunity to reach a comprehensive agreement on outstanding issues, which would help end existing conflicts and create a conducive environment for a new phase of regional stability.

In response, the Swiss Foreign Minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s constructive role in supporting de-escalation efforts and enhancing regional stability.

The two ministers also exchanged views on developments concerning the Palestinian issue. Abdel Aty underscored the importance of implementing the first phase of the U.S. plan and commencing the second phase. He emphasized that the National Committee for Gaza Management should begin its duties from within Gaza itself and that an international stabilization force should be deployed swiftly to support efforts to restore security and stability.

Concerning the situation in Sudan, Abdel Aty highlighted the significance of maintaining Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity while supporting its national institutions. He rejected any attempts to create parallel entities.

He also stressed the necessity of initiating an inclusive political process led by Sudanese ownership aimed at ending conflict while ensuring a humanitarian ceasefire that allows for humanitarian aid access to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
